Legal structure
Grant Thornton UK LLP (the firm) is a single national limited
liability partnership (LLP) incorporated under the Limited
Liability Partnerships Act 2000, registered in England and Wales
with registered number OC307742. Our professional activities are
predominantly conducted through the LLP, while certain support and
infrastructure activities are carried out through the LLP’s wholly
owned subsidiaries. Within our organisation, the term ‘partner’
indicates a member of the LLP or a senior employee of the firm who
is not in partnership for the purposes of the Partnership Act 1890.
A list of the members is open to inspection at the registered
office: Grant Thornton House, Melton Street, Euston Square, London
NW1 2EP.
Ownership
Grant Thornton UK LLP is entirely owned by its members.
Regulatory body affiliation
A number of the firm’s activities are regulated by a variety of
independent bodies. The firm’s audit practice is regulated by the
Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Public interest audit work and firm-wide procedures are examined
(currently annually) by the Audit Inspection Unit (AIU) of the
Professional Oversight Board, a part of the Financial Reporting
Council (FRC). Each partner and director in the Recovery and
Reorganisation team is licensed by one of the Recognised
Professional Bodies (RPBs), which include the ICAEW, ICAS, BIS and
IPA. The firm’s financial planning and certain corporate finance
lead advisory work are regulated by the Financial Services
Authority (FSA). In addition, the firm is subject to practice
reviews by the ICAEW Quality Assurance Directorate of those
activities not otherwise regulated. Grant Thornton UK LLP is a
member firm within Grant Thornton International Ltd.
