Terms and Conditions and eligibility for membership
1. Grant Thornton wants to encourage Alumni to contact each other and to post material on the Grant Thornton National Alumni website, but Grant Thornton wants you to use the site responsibly. Below are the Alumni programme terms and conditions. Please read these, paying particular attention to the
Disclaimer that forms part of them and the
Privacy Policy; they are important.
2. Grant Thornton may change these terms and conditions at any time without giving you notice, so please check them each time you intend to use any service provided by the Alumni programme or the Grant Thornton National Alumni website.
3. When you submit your registration form applying to join the Grant Thornton National Alumni, you are agreeing to these terms and conditions and by posting any material or message to the Grant Thornton National Alumni website, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions and, where applicable, the
Privacy Policy.
4. All former employees of Grant Thornton in the UK are eligible to apply for membership of the Grant Thornton National Alumni but, Grant Thornton reserves the right to refuse membership to any person, as it sees fit, without giving any reason.
5. You will become a member of the Grant Thornton National Alumni and be able to use the Grant Thornton National Alumni website only once Grant Thornton has contacted you and confirmed that it has accepted your registration. If you have any queries, please email us at

Directory
6. If Grant Thornton accepts you as a member of the National Alumni, the details you supply to Grant Thornton on the Registration Form will be included on the National Alumni website directory of members, unless you have not consented to Grant Thornton including you in the directory.
7. If you wish to have your entry in the directory removed, changed or corrected, you may do this via the My Profile section on the Alumni website.
8. By opting in you are agreeing to the details you provide when you register for the National Alumni (and any updates and changes to those details) to be published on the National Alumni website and will be available to all other members of the National Alumni, who may access those details from outside the UK and who may contact you directly. If you do not wish any details to be published or used in this way, either opt out completely or you should omit them from the Registration Form.
9. Except as set out in these terms and conditions or the
Privacy Policy, Grant Thornton will not supply your personal data to any third party.
Use of website and information on it
10. Grant Thornton reserves the right to monitor or screen any message or material posted to the Grant Thornton National Alumni website, although Grant Thornton is not obliged to do so. Grant Thornton may, at its discretion, edit, block, or remove any message or material posted to the Grant Thornton National Alumni website, whether or not it is in breach of these terms and conditions, without informing you.
11. Grant Thornton may identify you and disclose any material you have posted to the National Alumni website if Grant Thornton is requested or ordered to do so by the police, a court or by any other competent authority.
12. You will not post any profanity or obscenity on the National Alumni website, even if you disguise it with asterisks.
13. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to make any personal attack on anyone.
14. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to post or send, or create any link to, any defamatory, obscene, indecent, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, offensive, insulting, threatening, menacing, unlawful or blasphemous message or material.
15. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to post or send, or create any link to, any message or material that is an invasion of privacy, a breach of any data protection principle or legislation, a malicious falsehood or seditious libel, a contempt of court, or that is likely to incite or capable of inciting violence, racial hatred, sadism or cruelty or that encourages any unlawful or illegal act or omission.
16. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to post or send, or create any link to, any message or material that is intentionally false or that is misleading, or that causes annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety, or that is potentially damaging or harmful.
17. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to impersonate anyone else, whether or not a public figure.
18. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to state or represent falsely that you are connected to, or affiliated with, any individual or entity.
19. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to promote or advertise or engage in any other form of marketing, including (without limitation) chain letters, pyramid selling or unsolicited commercial e-mail, even if you are acting on behalf of a non-profit-making organisation or a charity.
20. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to post or send, or create any link to, any message or material that is protected by copyright, database rights or any other intellectual property rights unless you are the owner of those rights, or you have the permission of that owner to publish that material in that way.
21. You will permit Grant Thornton indefinitely to publish any material or message you post to the Grant Thornton National Alumni website, at Grant Thornton's discretion, and on an exclusive, royalty free basis. You waive your moral rights in relation to that message or material, including your right to be identified as its author.
22. You will not use the National Alumni website or any data available from it to post, send or create any link to, any confidential information; if you do so it will no longer be confidential.
23. You will not use the Grant Thornton National Alumni website or any data available from it to manipulate the market for any security.
24. You will not use the Grant Thornton National Alumni website or any data available from it to offer, sell or buy any security or in any way that is in breach of any rule or regulation relating to financial services.
25. You will not knowingly break any law or regulation whilst using the Grant Thornton National Alumni website.
26. Any personal data that you post to the Grant Thornton National Alumni website will be accessible to people outside the European Economic Area and may be used, stored and processed by them. Bear in mind that many countries outside the EEA do not adequately protect the rights of data subjects. By posting personal data to the Grant Thornton National Alumni website you consent to it being used in accordance with the
Privacy Policy.
27. You will not use the Grant Thornton National Alumni website to collect personal data about other individuals except to contact former employees of Grant Thornton for non-commercial purposes.
28. When posting material to the National Alumni website, you will not use any oversized fonts, JavaScript, tables, headings or other advanced HTML commands; use only bold or coloured fonts to emphasise your points.
29. You will not post or create a link to any file that contains any virus, corrupted data, Trojan horse or anything else that might damage, destroy or render inaccessible any data or files on any computer, and you will not try to circumvent the security features of the website, or tamper with, hack into, or in any other way disrupt or disable any computer system, server, website, router or other device used to host the website or make it available.
30. You will not disclose your log in details to anyone; you are responsible for all postings made using them. If you know or suspect that someone else knows your log in details, you will let Grant Thornton know immediately by contacting us at
partneralumni@gtuk.com. Grant Thornton may suspend or change log in details if there is a breach of security or misuse of the Grant Thornton National Alumni website, or if Grant Thornton suspects that this is the case.
Suspension and Termination
31. Grant Thornton reserves the right to suspend the Grant Thornton National Alumni website and any service available through it at any time and for any reason at any time without notice.
32. If you breach any of these terms and conditions, Grant Thornton may immediately and without notice, bar you temporarily or permanently from the Grant Thornton National Alumni website as a whole, or from any part of it, and/or terminate your membership of the Grant Thornton National Alumni.

34. You may terminate your membership of the Grant Thornton National Alumni at any time by contacting Grant Thornton at

35. Conditions 36 and following – Liability and Disclaimer - will survive the termination of your membership of the Alumni Programme and continue indefinitely.
Liability and Disclaimer
36. If you purchase or acquire goods or services from any third party, even if you have been directed from the National Alumni website to them, any contract you enter into with that third party and any use you make of its website is a matter between you and it. Grant Thornton has no liability for the quality or type of services or goods provided by any third party mentioned on the National Alumni website or to which the National Alumni website may be linked. It is for you to make your own judgement about them.
37. Any opinion, advice, statement, service, offer, or information or content provided or made by any member of the National Alumni or any third party on or via the National Alumni website, or on any site to which the National Alumni website is linked, is that of the author or provider, and not of Grant Thornton. Grant Thornton does do not endorse, and is not responsible for, the accuracy or reliability of, any such opinion, advice, statement, service, offer, information or content.
38. Where content or information on or services available via the National Alumni website have been supplied by a third party, Grant Thornton does not control or endorse them in any way. All information, content and services supplied by any third party are made available in good faith but Grant Thornton does not (to the extent allowed by the law) accept responsibility for their accuracy or use.
39. Grant Thornton makes no representation and gives no warranty about any other website or any opinion, advice, statement, offer, information or content on them or goods or services offered by it. Grant Thornton has no control over its content or availability. Grant Thornton will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by or in connection with any use of, or reliance on, any information, materials, goods or services available on or through any other website.
40. Any concern about any other website should be directed to that site's website administrator or web master.
41. Grant Thornton tries to ensure that any information that it posts to the National Alumni website that has not been supplied by a third party is accurate, but it makes no representation and gives no warranty that any information or content is accurate, up to date or complete. Grant Thornton accepts no liability for any loss or damage caused by inaccurate, out of date or incomplete information or content.
42. If you find any inaccurate, out of date or incomplete information or content on the Alumni website, or if you suspect that something is an infringement of intellectual property rights, you must let Grant Thornton know immediately by contacting us at

48. Despite any other provision of these terms and conditions, Grant Thornton does not exclude or limit its liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence or for any fraud on its part, or for any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Subject to Condition 47, Grant Thornton will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of business, profit, revenue, goodwill or data, lost or wasted management time or the lost time of other employees arising from your use of the National Alumni website or any information or material on it, or your inability to use it (whether that loss is direct or indirect).
50. All implied warranties, representations, terms, conditions and undertakings, whether implied by statute, common law, custom, trade usage, course of dealing or otherwise (including any implied warranty, representation, term, condition or undertaking of satisfactory quality or fitness for a particular purpose) are excluded to the fullest extent allowed by law.
51. Grant Thornton makes no representation and gives no warranty that the information and material on the National Alumni website are appropriate or available for use in locations outside the United Kingdom.
52. If the use of any information or material on the National Alumni website is unlawful in any jurisdiction (because of your nationality, residence or for some other reason), that information or material is not offered. If you are outside the United Kingdom you must satisfy yourself that you are lawfully able to use any such information and materials. Grant Thornton accepts no liability, to the extent allowed by the law, for any costs, losses or damages resulting from or related to the access or attempted access of any information or materials by anyone outside the UK.
General
53. No delay, neglect or forbearance on Grant Thornton's part in enforcing any of these terms and conditions will be, or be deemed to be, a waiver. Nor will it prejudice any of Grant Thornton's rights.
54. If any of these terms and conditions is (for any reason) held to be unenforceable, illegal or in some other way invalid, the unenforceable, illegal or invalid provision will not affect the remainder of these terms and conditions; and they will continue in full force and effect.
55. These terms and conditions are governed by English law and you agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. The place of performance will be England.
56. No addition to or modification of any provision of these terms and conditions will be binding on Grant Thornton unless made in writing and signed by Grant Thornton's duly authorised representative.
