Audit


Qualifications offered: ACA, ACCA, AAT

Become a trainee here and you’ll formally examine the accounts and financial situations of organisations as part of an audit team. Your team will also ensure that the client is in compliance with relevant regulations and laws.

From very early on, you’ll be working on site in client organisations on a variety of assignments. These will typically last around two weeks although there can be exceptions. Some projects may last only a few days; others might take as long as eight weeks.

Grant Thornton auditors gain exposure to all kinds organisations across a whole range of sectors. Our client portfolio encompasses media and entertainment, finance and professional services, retail, technology, agriculture, hospitality, property and construction, as well as healthcare and pharmaceuticals.

As a first-year trainee here, you will:

  • establish good working relationships with clients
  • check, read and add up sets of accounts
  • complete audit tests in all sections
  • attend stock takes and report your findings
  • carry out company searches and research
  • post journals in accounts packages
  • complete audit files electronically
  • complete bank and solicitor letters

As well as standard commercial auditing, some of our offices offer the opportunity to specialise in the following areas:

Public Sector Audit


Qualifications offered: ACA/CIPFA

Here trainees learn how to carry out audits, value for money studies and business reviews for public sector organisations. This area will typically see you working with government departments, local authorities, state agencies – but also not-for-profit organisations.

Agriculture Audit


Qualifications offered: ACA/ACCA

As a trainee here, you’ll help to advise farmers, agribusinesses, food companies and landed estates. We thus look for people with an interest in the business side of the food chain. Those with a degree in agriculture, biology or similar subject are particularly suitable for this area. Given the nature of our client base, a willingness to wear wellies - as well as a suit - is essential.

Motor Retail Audit


Qualifications offered: ACA/ACCA

Trainees here will assist us in advising clients from the motor retail sector. This specialist department offers a wide range of business advisory services—and because it reports to the Recovery & Reorganisation practice, trainees may have the opportunity to assist with receiverships or other specialist assignments.
