Recovery specialises in assisting companies that have run into financial problems. Where possible, they aim to help companies to survive and continue trading in a more streamlined form. However, sometimes their only option is to wind down the business and secure the best possible outcome for stakeholders.

Recovery & Reorganisation teams examine and resolve issues affecting profitability and find ways to protect enterprise value. We are frequently hired by financially robust companies seeking to acquire underperforming competitors; other times, we may work directly for distressed businesses requiring an urgent solution.

Graduates tend to specialise in one of four distinct teams;

Corporate Insolvency

Our mandate is to protect the value of insolvent companies and to maximise the return to creditors through insolvency procedures. Trainees here are usually involved in:

  • managing and trading a business
  • negotiating the sale of a business and its assets
  • communicating with creditors, debtors and various other stakeholders
  • completing statutory duties
  • working with the fraud insolvency division

We use forensic tracing to investigate and recover assets internationally, using powers under the Insolvency Act. We also take control of and realise assets that are connected to the proceeds of fraudulent and criminal activity.

Personal Insolvency

We broker solutions between indebted individuals and their creditors. Frequently, this will see us putting together Individual Voluntary Arrangements: legally binding agreements that involve some write-off of the debt amount.

We also manage and recover the estates of bankrupt individuals. This will see you dealing with asset recoveries and instructing agents. In more complex cases, we employ the forensic asset tracing skills of the Fraud Insolvency Division.

Corporate Restructuring and Turnaround

We identify and resolve issues affecting strategy and performance; assist financially robust companies seeking to acquire underperforming competitors; provide urgent solutions to restore distressed businesses to full health; and conduct bank covenant reviews.
