arrangements to deliver optimum and sustainable tax efficiencies
for their clients. They closely monitor developments in UK and tax
regulation to deliver forward-thinking, far-sighted solutions.
As first-year trainee, you will be:
- producing tax computations
- carrying out technical research on complex issues
- advising clients on their tax requirements
- working closely with HM Revenue & Customs
- building long-term relationships with our clients
- completing tax returns
You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of clients, too. Our
portfolio encompasses media and entertainment, finance and
professional services, retail, technology, agriculture,
hospitality, property and construction, as well as healthcare and
pharmaceuticals. As well as our corporate clients, we also have a
large proportion who are entrepreneurial, high net worth
individuals including footballers, famous actors.
Corporate Tax
Qualifications offered: ACA/CTA
Our Corporate Tax team help businesses to optimise their tax
position, manage their tax risks and meet their compliance
obligations in this area – from UK and international tax
structuring considerations to operational tax issues. Trainees here
gain exposure to both multinational global companies and private
limited companies. During your first year, you will:
- assist audit colleagues with the tax dimension of their
accounts
- support our senior-level advisers with technical research
- prepare tax computations for companies
Corporate Advisory Services
Qualifications offered: ACA/CTA
We provide specialist advice in international corporate tax,
transfer pricing, global tax compliance, financial services tax,
and property and construction tax amongst others. Clients are
typically multinational businesses with operations around the world
and therefore operate on different time zones, which may mean
you'll need to be flexible with your working hours. In this group,
trainees can expect to carry out the following activities:
- assist audit colleagues with the tax dimension of their
accounts
- support our senior-level advisers with technical research
- prepare tax computations for companies
VAT
Qualification offered: CTA
Whether they’re planning an acquisition, launching a new
business line, or expanding internationally, VAT issues play an
important role in our clients’ decision-making. It’s our mission to
provide them with expert advice in this area. We also help internal
stakeholders within the business with the VAT dimension of large
deals. As a trainee here, you will:
- assist in the planning and execution of VAT consultancy
assignments
- carry out technical research on VAT legislation, customs
guidance and case law
- support our audit department on VAT issues
- assist our clients with applications for VAT registrations and
returns
Tax Investigations
Qualification offered: CTA
This team represents taxpayers who are the subject of HM Revenue
& Customs enquiries. We deal with prosecutions, suspected
serious fraud, technical avoidance cases, large corporate risk
assessment, detailed international tax enquiry cases, as well as
complex personal tax enquiries. We represent both personal and
corporate clients. As a trainee here, you will:
- carry out forensic analysis on complex tax enquiries
- negotiate settlements on tax, interest and penalties with HM
Revenue & Customs
- develop your understanding of contemporary technical issues in
this area
Entrepreneurial and Private Client
Qualification offered: CTA
We provide expert advice to high net worth individuals on how
they can reduce their personal tax burden. We also give
recommendations to entrepreneurs on how they can save tax at all
stages of their business lifecycle. Our expertise covers not only
tax planning, but also the tax dimension of remuneration,
acquisitions and disposals. As a trainee here, you will:
- provide personal taxation advice
- carry out compliance and estate planning
- support the reduction of potential inheritance tax liabilities
for our clients
- help entrepreneurs manage their complex tax affairs
Tax and Financial Planning dual programme
Qualifications offered: CII and ATT going to CTA
The dual programme will see you being trained in both personal
tax and financial planning for the first two years. After this,
you’ll then choose whether to specialise in tax planning or
financial planning.
In the first two years, you’ll sit exams to acquire the
following qualifications: the Chartered Insurance Institute
certificate (CII) and the Diploma in Financial Planning and the
Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT). From the third year on,
you’ll then specialise. You’ll either acquire the Chartered Tax
Adviser (CTA) qualification - or the Chartered Financial Planner
qualification.
Whichever route you choose, you’ll have gained a detailed
knowledge of both professions – putting you among the premier
private client advisers in the business.
As a trainee here, you will:
- advise entrepreneurs and high net worth individuals
- advise major professional partnerships and offshore trusts
- assist in the provision of complex financial planning
reports
- review our clients' business structures and personal financial
arrangements and deliver intelligent solutions
Employer Solutions
Qualification offered: CTA
We work with large employers to develop leading-edge reward
structures for their employees across both the domestic and
international arenas. Our expertise covers the whole area of
employee rewards –and we are renowned for designing reward schemes
that are motivational, cost-effective and business appropriate. We
also advise employers on the tax implications of having a
cross-border workforce.
First year trainees:
- assist in the provision of our consultancy services
- develop tax efficient global remuneration strategies and share
schemes
- assist our clients with their international employee tax
compliance obligations and processes.
