Paul Hughes (Director)

Paul helps to lead our Public Sector Assurance practice in London, the South East and Anglia, specialising in external audit work in local government and the NHS.

Experience

Paul joined Grant Thornton in 2007, following the merger with RSM Robson Rhodes. Paul has 18 years public sector audit experience working with the firm and the Audit Commission.  He is engagement lead for a range of health and local government bodies, including London Borough of Barnet, Barnet Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, North Central London Primary Care Cluster and North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

He has a wide experience of delivering governance and financial advisory work to the public sector. Paul is a member of the Grant Thornton Governance Institute, which aims to bring together best practice from the public and large corporate sectors. He authored the firm’s national report on governance in local government and co-authored the NHS version of the report.

Paul was a member of two separate teams that won the Audit Commission's Read Award for developing VFM based studies in the NHS.

He sits on the firm’s healthcare board and is experienced in presenting to local and national professional forum events.
