Gerald Smith (Partner)
Gerald works in our Recovery & Reorganisation
team, specialising in formal insolvency and corporate recovery
work. In recent years he has dedicated his time to working within
the pensions sector where he provides independent financial advice
to trustees, corporates and providers of finance in respect of
defined benefit pension schemes.
Experience
Gerald joined us at Grant Thornton in 2007. Previously he has
worked with RSM Robson Rhodes where he had been a partner since
1987, specialising in all aspects of corporate recovery and
insolvency work. Gerald has established a reputation for assisting
businesses in re-organisation and trading out of difficulty. He has
also taken part in fraud and forensics investigations for
regulatory authorities and solicitors, which have involved him
acting as an expert witness.
Gerald is a licensed insolvency practitioner who has over recent
years spent a considerable amount of time working in the pensions
sector where he has undertaken a significant amount of covenant
review work for corporates, scheme trustees and financial
institutions. Gerald's approach to resolving scheme deficit issues
includes working closely with the scheme trustees; the scheme
actuary and legal advisors to secure an agreed action plan with the
sponsoring employer.
