CBI Service Sector Survey
Service sector firms saw a split in fortunes in the three months to August.While growth in the volume of sales and profits was widely spread for business and professional services, that was notmatched by consumer services firms, where sales growth decelerated and profit growth levelled off. Reflecting this, business sentiment deteriorated, year-ahead investment plans weakened markedly, and amajority of consumer services companies no longer expect to expand their business in the year ahead. Busines services do plan to expand, however, while their investment plans have not weakened asmuch.
