Our UK Offering
As the level of business and number of transactions with China
increases, so too does the demand for financial and advisory
services. Grant Thornton's dedicated China Group was launched
in June 2007 to satisfy the high demand for targeted advice in this
rapidly changing market with teams based in both the UK and
China.
Here in the UK, we have considerable experience with Stephen
Weatherseed, Head of the China Group, having been based in our Hong
Kong office for over 16 years. We also have a number of
native Mandarin and Cantonese speakers specialising in service
streams including tax, transaction support and audit. They
already work with the following:
- China-based companies aiming to raise funds in
the UK through an IPO, typically on AIM
- China-based companies seeking to gain entry
into the UK through organic growth or acquisition
- UK-based companies seeking to develop or
acquire a presence in China.
In China
Our presence and service offerings are constantly evolving and
improving. This is due to a number of reasons including some
significant investment recently by the US firm including the
secondment of partner Stephen Chipman to the Hong Kong office where
he is currently overseeing the implementation of Grant Thornton
International's China strategy.
The members of the China Group have considerable experience of
working with the Chinese in both China and Hong Kong and have
developed in-depth understanding not only of doing business but of
the business culture in modern China which can often vary from
region to region - making our local knowledge invaluable.
Through our China Group, we are able to remain abreast of the
rapidly changing Chinese business environment both in terms of
regulation and individual spending habits. Therefore, we can
offer our clients the security of knowing our specialists have been
there and done it, and are on hand to support their venture.
Working Together
We are involved with a number of China related organisations
including being members of the China-Britain Business Council
(CBBC) and the Hong Kong Association. Additionally, we
have been actively involved in hosting China specific events for
both UK Trade & Investment and the CBI. We have also
forged a number of relationships with key intermediaries such as
law firms, recruitment agencies, real estate consultants and other
business support services.
