Grant Thornton Partners make the short-list for prestigious CBI First Women Awards

Clare Hartnell and Francesca Lagerberg, Partners at Grant Thornton, have both been short-listed for the prestigious CBI First Women Awards that celebrate the achievements of pioneering business women.

Francesca Lagerberg, Head of Tax, has been short-listed for the Business Services category and Clare Hartnell, Head of Property and Construction has been short-listed in the Property category.

Scott Barnes, Chief Executive Officer at Grant Thornton says, "I am delighted that Clare and Francesca's inspirational approach at Grant Thornton over the years is being recognised. Clare has forged a path to a Senior role in a traditionally male dominated industry. Francesca is a very visible role model, as she is one of the very few senior businesswomen regularly appearing on radio, television and in the press.

"Both have been an inspiration to many as they continue to remove barriers and open up opportunities for others to follow. Many people have benefited from Francesca and Clare's excellent leadership, coaching and encouragement."

Francesca joined Grant Thornton in 2006, joining the firm as head of the firm’s national tax office. She was the unanimous choice of her peers and the National Leadership Board to take over as head of tax in 2009. She now has responsibility for a practice of over 800 people in total, where she drives the tax strategy, business plan and operational issues plus leading the tax leadership team. She is only the second woman ever to chair the Tax Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). She then went on to become the first woman to chair its Technical Committee and has been a driving force behind the development of this prestigious Faculty for the last decade.

Clare joined Grant Thornton in 2001 as the Head of the London property team. She was recently appointed to Global Head of Real Estate and Construction overseeing ten countries across the world including USA, Canada, India, Spain and Hong Kong. Clare is the first woman to be nominated to join Grant Thornton UK LLP's Partnership Committee helping to ensure the firm's Business Risk Management Policies are followed and in place.

The winners of the CBI First Women Awards will be announced on 23 June 2010.
