Total Place and the future shape of public services.
Grant Thornton has co-sponsored a research project with New Local Government Network (NLGN) which is one of the most detailed studies on Total Place undertaken so far. The report's findings are wide-ranging and it highlights significant opportunities for public services, including:
- Pilots are indicating that 10% can be realistically saved from the integration of asset management across a locality.
- Vertical interests within the public sector severely undermine the interests of "place" resulting in significant duplication and waste.
- London Councils have claimed that the capital can save 15% of its budget (£11 billion a year) by adopting more innovative service delivery models
Here is a copy of the report's Executive Summary; the full report can be obtained from the NLGN.
